Here are the latest Angel UPDATES

FEBRUARY 15, 2012

Valentine's Day was not very sweet for a couple members of our softball family.  Jim Tramel suffered a stroke while at home Tuesday morning and was taken to Boswell Hospital.  It appears to have been a mild stroke, but the doctors are running some additional tests to be safe.  He hopes to be released from the hospital in the next day or so and can't wait to get back to the field.  Al Schifini was hit above the eye with a hard hit ball and was treated by the paramedics who bandaged him up so he could get to the ER where he received several stitches.  Al reports he is fine and appreciates all the phone calls he received.  He hopes to be back playing next week.  We wish both these guys a speedy recovery.

Best news ever from Arnie Wright – After 11 difficult months of various treatments which included lots of chemo and radiation , Alta was recently tested in depth (including blood work and a bone marrow biopsy) and it was found that her Multiple Myeloma is in REMISSION!  Arnie and Alta are thrilled - although exhausted - and want to thank everybody for all of their support during this last tough year.  They can now concentrate on getting Alta’s strength back.

Al Bronner was taken to the ER at Banner Del Webb Hospital on February 7 where he is being treated for kidney stones.  Al will be in the hospital at least through this weekend and will be unable to return to playing ball for several weeks. Cards are welcome and he would enjoy telephone calls from his many softball friends.  Call him in his room at the hospital - 623-524-4584.  We wish Al a complete recovery.

UPDATES ON PLAYERS WHO WERE INJURED OR HAD SURGERY THIS WEEK

Julie McGlynn found out that softball can sometimes become a  "contact sport" this week as she had a collision with another player.  She is going to be fine but will probably be out for about a week.  She sustained a bump on her head and badly strained and bruised her wrist. Fortunately, nothing is broken.

T. R. Mickelson  was pitching Thursday and while going for a high pop up he lost the ball in the sun and the ball hit him on top of the head.  But a little clean up and bandages and he was back on the field.  T. R. will be looking for the sympathy vote next week, but will be back playing as usual.

Len Wicketts, while pitching Thursday, was trying to go for a ball hit back to the pitcher when he experienced sharp pain in his foot and ankle.  Lenny was helped off the field and iced the injured area immediately.  Len says he plans to see a Dr. on Monday for x-rays to see what damage was done.  Hopefully, he will listen to what the Dr. tells him to do (and NOT do).

We wish all of these National Leaguers a speedy recovery!

John Doherty of the American League had his shoulder surgery as planned on Thursday.  It was an out patient procedure.  He reports that the surgery was a little more involved than the surgeon first thought, but the prognosis is good.  His recovery time will be three to four months.  John is currently recovering at home.  Send him a card or give him a call.  I am sure we will see him in the peanut gallery as soon as he is able.  Best of luck in your recovery, John.

JANUARY 16, 2012

John Doherty will have surgery on his right (throwing) shoulder next Thursday, 1/19 as an outpatient at Del Webb Hospital.  Diagnosis is Impingement Syndrome  and Labial Tear.  It will be 3-4 months before any return to softball at which time he can expect a 75% recovery in throwing distance without pain.  In the meantime, he will be drooling on the sidelines, sling and all.  We wish John a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.
