MESSAGE FROM BOB PECK, PRESIDENT, SUN CITY WEST SOFTBALL CLUB

At the March 1, 2010 Board meeting of the SCW Softball Club, the following was approved by a motion of the governing board:

Beginning with the Spring Fling this week and continuing on a trial basis until the end of the winter session on April 1, pitchers at SCW Liberty Field will be required to wear a protective mask during games. This action applies only to the American and National League games played on Tuesday & Thursday. No other leagues or days are affected. The SCW Club will purchase two masks to be available for use by pitchers who do not have one.

I would expect that there may be individual pitchers who may refuse to use the mask. If a pitcher on a particular team chooses not to wear a mask and a team is without a legitimate pitcher, it is my recommendation that that team manager be allowed to find a substitute pitcher from another team or the sub pool who would comply with the board's action.

The Board has acted in good faith to address a safety concern which we thought could not be overlooked. Please direct any questions or concerns to me.

After this trial period, the Board will reconsider the issue and may act on appropriate alternative solutions that are available.

President
Bob Peck

The Sidewinders Senior Softball Tournament

The successful tournament was not without influence from Mother Nature.  If fact, tournament directors determined that it was best to complete the tournament on Saturday rather than holding the championship games to the scheduled Sunday schedule and reduce the possibilites of being rained out.   We have been unable to determine if the directors have wisdom beyond their years, were just plain lucky, or are REALLY GOOD weather forecasters, but it started to rain in the seventh inning of the very last game. Had the tournament porceeded on the orginal schedule...it would have been rained out!

Sun City West put a "RECREATIONAL" team into the 25th Annual Sidewinders Senior Softball Tournament named X-Caliber.  X-Caliber went undefeated in the Recreational Division.  The Champion X-Caliber team played three games on Friday and the remaining two games on Saturday of the Round-Robin formatted tournament.  The 1/2 run differential for the visiting team was never in question as the scores in all of the games favored the X-Caliber team by numerous runs.

The 60's Sidewinders played stellar ball until the Chanpionship Game when Sidewinder hitting became an issue.  Both teams played outstanding defence.  The 60's came up just short, and were named Runner-Up to the Champs.  It should be noted that due to the games being compressed the 60's Sidewinders played 5 games on Saturday.  THAT IS A LOT OF GAMES to be played in one day.

About the USE of Phone Numbers on Rosters

Over the last six months the IT Committee has made a number of changes to improve and enhance electronic communications and notifications methods.  The IT committee looked long and hard at publishing phone numbers on rosters, and explored the legalities and misconceptions over phone numbers and email addresses.  Previous methods were viewed as unsatisfactory as it was possible for crawlers and sniffers to electronically find and associate names with phone numbers, as a possible method of obtaining personal information without your knowledge, even though this information is easily found on the internet.  So, we developed a method that does not allow electronic capture and association of your name, phone number and email information.  That is the method we are currently using on www.azsrsoftball.com.

Sun City West recently had players sign a new wavier form disclosing that we would publish some of the information from your data sheets on the azsrsoftball.com website.  The waiver also included items needed by the clubs and the association that would NOT be published.  Sun City is following suit...and will be getting all of their players to sign new waivers with a similar disclosure statement.

IF YOU DO NOT WANT YOUR PHONE NUMBER PUBLISHED ON THE ROSTERS...contact your league committee chairperson!  They will move your phone number in the database so that it does not appear on the rosters.  Please do not contact the Presidents...contact your league administrator.
