Softball West Magazine March Issue - SCSSA article
Latest News February 17, 2012

SCW Softball Club Members,
The attached document was developed as an informational sheet to explain what softball would look like at SCW, if we no longer Co-Mingled with SC.
On Tuesday and Thursday, March 13 and 15 there will be a vote of our membership to determine if co-mingling with SC is going to continue. It is important that every club member gets an opportunity to vote. It is also important that everyone understands what is at stake (how you will be impacted). The purpose of the attached informational sheet is to inform you what softball would look like if we were to no longer co-mingle.
The vote will be handled by secret ballot forms that will be deposited in a locked box by the voter. Absentee or Proxy votes will NOT be accepted or counted. The results of this vote will be announced via email.
To insure that each of you gets pertinent information of an unbiased nature all questions regarding the attached information sheet you should contact a member of the American or National League Committee. Additionally, a public question and answer forum will be held at Liberty Field on February 20th at 2 PM.

Dear Club Member,

On April 1, 2012, the Sun City West Softball Club will again be hosting the annual Tin Cup Golf Tournament fundraiser for our softball club. Every year we have managed to turn out hundreds of supporters to help us realize our fundraising goal.

I have been asked by the Club to assist in the coordination of course/player assignment, as well as the placement of golf cars at their respective designated course, at either Deer Valley or Grandview Golf Course. This year, as in the past, the Sun City West Rec. Center will be donating 20 golf cars for those participating golfers who do not have their own carts for use in the tournament. It is our greatest hope that the 20 donated carts will be sufficient to accommodate all of those needing carts. However, because there is the remote possibility that we may need more than the 20 Rec. Center carts, I am calling on Club members, whether a tournament participant or not, to graciously make available their carts to those who are supporting us through their participation, but who do not have carts. Because the success of the Tournament is so important as a source of revenue for Club operations, I ask for your help in gathering an emergency resource, if needed.

If any member would be willing to assist in this effort, I would ask that they contact me either by my e-mail or by calling me directly at home.

Thanks,

Jan Strock

Sun Cities Softball League Members

Sunday April 1, 2012 is the date you want to mark on your calendars. This is the date for our annual Tin Cup Golf Tournament and Banquet. Our Tin Cup Committees are already hard at work planning this event. Golf courses have been reserved, the caterer has been signed, banners are being sold, and flyers are being printed.

Many of you may think that we have enough volunteers and don’t need any more help. That is absolutely not true.An event as large as this needs many volunteers. Our committee leaders are always looking for people to serve on their committees. Some of our committees are banner installation, photography, golf carts, beer garden, ticket sales, and revenue production. These are only a few of the many committees it takes to run The Tin Cup.

Remember, that The Tin Cup helped pay for the many improvements at Liberty Field, and will continue to help pay for future improvements. This is OUR club, and it took many, many volunteers to make it what it is today. You can help our club continue to grow by volunteering, and The Tin Cup is a good way to start.

There are many club members, but only a few committee leaders.Don’t wait for us to ask you for your help, ask us what you can do to help. You can talk to me at the field or call me at 623 792-8993 to see where you can help.

Nancy Dobbins

Tin Cup Committee Chairperson.

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY...hitting from a Tee at Liberty Field is NO LONGER PERMITTED. By unanimous vote, the Sun City West Softball Club Board voted this morning to prohibit hitting off of a tee at Liberty Field. This practice has is causing excessive and unwarranted damage to the advertising billboards in the outfield, causing the club to pay the replacement cost of these bill boards before the scheduled replacement.

The SCWSC Board would also like to remind you that ONLY ASA BATS are permitted to be used at Liberty Field. This restriction is in effect at all times, not just during games. You are not permitted to use non-ASA bats for practice or any other activity at Liberty Field.
Our new Bylaws are now posted on our azsrsoftball.com website. Please review the Bylaws over the next 30 days, which have been approved by the Recreation Centers of Sun City West, and be prepared to vote on them at the next General Board meeting. One area of note is: the number of times a non resident may attend practices as a guest before they must join the SCWSC. All guests must sign in and have a waiver of liability on file before the SET FOOT on Liberty Field. Guest are NOT permitted on Liberty field without being accompanied by a member, signing in, and without signing a waiver of liability. Individuals from outside Sun City West are considered guests unless they are playing in reciprocal league play or a special event where there participation has been approved by the SCWSC Board.

Loran Swanson

Happy Retirement (from softball) to Loran Swanson
After 16 of what Loran calls "wonderful years" in Sun City West and Senior Softball, Loran and Janet are turning the page to the next chapter of their lives. Their house is sold and the moving truck is scheduled. Their family is anxiously awaiting their arrival back in Lincoln, Nebraska by the end of November. Loran's contributions to softball are many. He has been a special Angel in the Outfield, keeping tabs on injured and retired players and making sure we were notified when a player passed on.
