Team Peterson – 12 Paul Tone – 8

Team Peterson used six doubles to take down Paul Tone 12-8. Don Wickersham, Dan Behrs, and Ron Bedford led Peterson with three hits each. Behrs and Randy Brink each had two doubles while Judy Grintjes and Ross Rhodes recorded one. Led by the four hits including a triple by Pierre Coulombe, Paul Tone stayed close before they ran out of innings. Adding three hits for Tone was the trio of Frank Mower, Larry Shively (2B), and John Skubic. John Derylo also had a double for the Paul Tone.

Phoenix Sports – 5 Thrive Healing – 11

Thrive Healing took an 11-1 lead over Phoenix Sports after four innings before settling for an 11-5 win over Sports. Four Thrive players aided in the victory by recording three hits each. They were Tim Barkes (3B), Buckley Simmons, Glen Radke (2-2B) and sub John Derylo (3B). Pitcher Lee Anderson was the sole Phoenix Sports batsman with more than two hits as he notched three hits. Larry Drader and sub Bruce Marren each legged out doubles.

Home Smart – 4 Saini Smiles – 5

The third game turned out to be a close one as Smiles pitcher Jesse Nelson outduel Bob Latterall to lead his team to a 5-4 win. Despite being outhit 16-13 Smiles was able to hold on for the win. Frank Seaberg (2b) and Stephanie Cummings led Smiles with three hits each. Kelly Schroeder and Craig Brooks both added RBI doubles to pace Saini Smiles. Nelson held Home Smart their first loss of the young season by allowing no batter to have more than two hits and no extra base hits.

Classic Car Wash – 12 Hole N One – 11

Classic Car Wash was cruising along with a 10-4 lead after six against Hole N One. Hole N One busted open for seven runs in the top of the seventh to take an 11-10 win only to see their comeback spoiled when Classic scored two in the bottom half for the win. Rod Staeb paced Classic with four hits followed by the three hits each of Jay Marty (3B, 2B) and Jim Kreidler. Tim Freund and Paul felice also had doubles for the washers. Max Beckner led the comeback attempt by Hole N One with four hits followed by the three hits of Ron Stallbaum, Dan Mellon, and Craig Martin who had the diners only extra base hit, a double.

Suzi’s Home Cleaning – 8 Canyon State – 5

Suzi’s Home Cleaning notched their first win of the season with an 8-5 win over Canyon State. Greg Potts was a perfect 4-4 for Suzi’s, followed by Lee Thompson who had three hits and a double. Steve Engels had a triple, and I am reliably told three RBIs to help keep Suzi’s in the lead. Bill Davis used his speed to stretch a single into a double. Canyon State had four batters reach the three hit plateau. They were Kevin Kelly, Jerry Bianchi, John Wooding, and Mel Bentley. Jim Montgomery had States’ sole extra base hit, a double.
