CENTRAL LEAGUE GAME WRITE UPS

 Susi’s Home Cleaning – 12 Phoenix Sports – 13 

Susi’s Home Cleaning suffered their first loss of the short season when Phoenix Sports erupted for six runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning. Gary Scapito, who had the game winning hit, was one of four Sports batters who had three hits. Kevin Kelley, Craigh Sorenson and Dave Braley were the other three batters. Scott Dannen had a three RBI double in the final frame to keep Phoenix Sports’ rally going. Also with extra base hits were John Bentler, a triple and John Case who had a double. John Derylo led Susi’s with four hits including two doubles. Following with three hits each were Rich Cherry, Larry Drader (3 RBIs), and Kevin Husen. Mark Metevia tallied two doubles for Susi’s. 


 Thrive Healing - 10 Canyon State – 11 

More late inning magic as Canyon State struck for five runs in the final frame to edge Thrive Healing 11-10. Canyon States’ five run final inning was capped off by a bases loaded double by Wayne Haddy to score the tying and winning runs. Greg Potts had a strong day for State with four hits including a double. Following close behind with three hits were Rod Staeb, Larry Shively (2B, 3 RBIs), Jim Dohrmann, and sub Mark Krska. Don Wickersham also added a double and Bruce Marren turned a triple into a double by admiring his line drive to left field. Steve Engels reached base four times for Thrive while Ralph Benjamin, Tom Finn, Kevin Okinello (2B), and Larry Lienemann (3 RBIs) each were good for three hits. Jim Savage legged out a triple for Thrive. 


 Hole N One - 4 Az Fans and Blinds – 5 

Az Fans and Blinds decided to not wait for the seventh inning as they scored three in the bottom half of the sixth to claim 5-4 win over Hole N One. The scored was 4-2 after the first inning and both pitchers kept it that way until Az F&B scored their three in the sixth for the win. Az F&B got three hits each from Trevor Cornett, Bill Connor and Jim Fieser. Craig Brooks added a double. Pitcher Dottie Johnson held Hole N One scoreless after the first inning and allowed no opposition batter to get more than two hits, and only one extra base hit, a double by Jeff Silbaugh.  


Saini Smiles – 9 Desert Rose – 1 

No late inning heroics needed in this game as Saini Smiles pitcher Jim Linzmeier held Desert Rose to just 11 hits and one run allowing Saini Smiles to take home a 9-1 in. Smiles got three hits each from Rich Berndt, Jay Marty, and Kelly Schroeder. Linzmeier added a double to help his own cause. No Rose batter was able to accrue more than two hits, and they had just one extra base hit, a first inning leadoff double by Ron Wambach.

 

 Team Peterson – 10 Paul Tone – 4 

Six runs total in the third and fourth innings allowed Team Peterson to get some breathing room from what had been a 2-2 score and turn it into an 8-4 lead. Paul Tone scored two in the third and then were held scoreless the remainder of the game by pitcher Lee Anderson. Mike Van Wie filled up the scoresheet for Team Peterson with four hits, including three doubles. Paul Felice followed with three hits as did Todd Zarbok (4 RBIs) and sub Jay Marty, who had two triples. Anderson kept Paul Tone in check by allowing only 11 hits. Ken Rau knocked in 3 for Tone.
