Paul Tone – 14 Canyon State – 8
With the score at 6-5 after four innings, Paul Tone outscored Canyon State 8-3 the remainder of the game to claim a 14-8 win. The top half of the lineup for Paul Tone came out swinging as they accounted for 19 of Tones’ 27 hits. Leading the charged with four hits each were Glen Hower and sub Lee Tenold. Tenold also knocked in four runs. Following with three hits was Juan Curiel (2B), Ken Rau (3 RBIs), and Ken McGraw who also drove in three. Sub Jim Fieser also added. Double to the Tone hit Column. Rod Staeb led Canyon state with three hits. Providing extra base hits were Wayne Haddy, who had a triple and double and Bruce Marreen who doubled and drove in three.
Thrive Healing Center - 7 Hole N One – 1
A close 1-0 game, with Hole N One leading after three, changed quickly when Thrive put seven runs on the board in the fourth and fifth innings and then held Hole N One scoreless for the remainder of the game. Thrive held down the opposition from scoring by benefitting from four double plays. Thrive pitcher Mel Bentley held Hole N One to just the one run and eight hits. Neither team featured a batter with more than two hits, but Thrive took more advantage of their timely hits as Steve Engels, Gene Klein and sub Wayne Haddy knocked in six of the seven runs.
Phoenix Sports - 7 AZ Fans and Blinds – 8
Az Fans and Blinds opened up with a four run first inning and then held on to claim a close 8-7 win over Phoenix Sports. Sports got within one in the top of the seventh inning only to leave the tying run on third. Az Fans and Blinds was led by Ron Bedford and Carl O’Leary who both smacked three hits. Dave Bjornlie opened up the first inning for Az Fans and Blinds with a triple and Jim Fieser ended the first with a double to score three of the four runs. Phoenix Sports had a good offensive day but couldn’t maximize that offense for enough runs. Kevin Kelley led with four hits including a double. He was followed by the three hits of John Wooding (2B), Dave Braley, and Brian Melody.
Desert Rose - 0 Susi’s Home Cleaning – 11
Susi’s pitcher Ross Rhodes hurled a rare shutout as he held Desert Rose to just eight hits and no runs. As it turned out first place Susi’s needed only the three runs it scored in the second inning to claim the eventual win. Rich Cherry, Mark Krska, and Dave Peterson had three hits each for Susi’s. Extra base hits for Susi’s were doubles by Krska and subs Steve Engels and Craig Martin. The sole highlight for Desert Rose was a triple by Peggy Stallbaum.
Saini Smiles – 8 Team Peterson – 7
We almost had another well pitched game as Jim Linzmeier had allowed only two first inning runs before being touched up for five in Team Peterson’s last at bat. Peterson left the tying run stranded at third before the final out. Smiles took home the win despite only having one batter with more than two hits as Rich Berndt reached three times. Sub Jeff Silbaugh drove in three to aid in Smile’s win. Team Peterson however had four batters with three hits each. They were Dave Gjerstad, Todd Zarbock, who launched two triples and drove in three, Ron Wambach and Kathy McClain.
